I am Suzanne Bryan, a TKGA Certified Master Hand Knitter, designer, and teacher. I make short tutorials that get straight to the point. They explain the how and the why, because the details are what turn homemade knitting into handmade knitting.
I completed The Knitting Guild Association’s Master Hand Knitting Program in 2010, later served on the MHK Review Committee, and spent six years as joint chair for final reviews. I have taught TKGA correspondence courses in Mosaic Knitting and the Knitting Judges Certification Course, and I taught through Bakersfield College’s Levan Institute of Lifelong Learning. In 2012 I founded What the Knit! Guild in Bakersfield, California, after informal meetings that began in 2008, and it became a nonprofit in 2016.
Most people find me on YouTube at Knitting with Suzanne Bryan, where I film the techniques I wish someone had shown me clearly the first time: tubular and Italian bind offs, gap free underarms and thumbs, button bands and buttonholes, picking up stitches, Continental tension, brioche, cables, intarsia, stranded colorwork, and ways to fix mistakes without ripping everything out.
On Ravelry I publish tutorial patterns that walk you through a project while teaching the skills. These include sweaters that fit, including the It Takes a Guild series (yoke, set in sleeve, drop shoulder, and raglan), plus mitts with proper thumb gussets and finishing that actually holds up.
My teaching style is practical and driven by theory. I want you to read your fabric, choose the right method for the job, and understand why one approach works better than another. Community matters as much as technique: the Facebook group Knitting with Suzanne Bryan and my Ravelry group welcome knitters of every level.
Master Your Knitting is the next step in that work. These are structured classes and bootcamps that take the same clear approach, explaining why as well as how, and put it in one place. Teaching is my happy place. If you want clean construction, thoughtful choices, and a teacher who will tell you why as well as how, you are in the right place.
Happy knitting.
